Divorce Support

Going through a divorce is not easy, even for the best of individuals who are grounded and focused on their future. Whether you were the one who asked for divorce or you are the one who was on the receiving end, being able to speak to a neutral third party about your struggles can be therapeutic. Many things will change for you now. Being able to verbalize with someone who has your best interest at heart can help you to not feel alone as you go through the many stages of divorce.

I can help in two ways:

  1. If you are already involved in the divorce process, I can help you with individual counseling to give you guidance on the journey to your new life.
  2. If you have not yet settled on a type of divorce process, I am also versed in the Collaborative Law process and can assist in sorting out which type of divorce may be appropriate for you and which questions to ask your potential lawyer. The Collaborative Law process can help you work outside of the traditional court system to achieve a better balanced and more customized divorce end result.

If we are doing individual divorce support counseling, we will most likely begin focusing on your current struggles regarding the divorce and the steps you have taken so far on solving those issues. I will also want to learn about your family of origin, as they have a profound effect on how we act, work, play and think as adults. We will then switch gears and look at the future. What does your future look like after divorce? Who will be involved in your life? What are the major priorities for you right now, in the near future and in the distant future?

While there is no set number of sessions suggested for individual counseling, as differing issues and differing personalities make it difficult to predict such a thing, I do ask that my clients commit to at least 5 sessions if possible to be able to begin to see some change. I will also let you know that as we open up and become more familiar with the problems that brought you to counseling, you may feel as if you are periodically moving backward instead of forward. This is simply because we are discussing topics that you were not comfortable in verbalizing in the past. This is normal. Have faith in yourself and this process and you can get through those apparent moments of frustration. There is no right or wrong answer in our sessions. I want you to feel comfortable in saying what is on your mind and to feel confident in disagreeing with me at any time. You know yourself better than anyone else and in order for me to get to know you, I need you to be honest with what is working and what is not.

Each 50-55 minute individual session has a fee of $150. See my Services & Rates page for discounted package offers.
